Lions Drop Close Matches at Platteview (1-5-12)
Fort Calhoun 40, Louisville 34
Platteview 46, Louisville 36

The Louisville Lions, facing huge deficits in both matches, lost to Fort Calhoun, 40-34, and the host Trojans, 46-36, at the Platteview Triangular. The Lions were plagued by open weight classes and illness that forced LHS to juggle their line-up.

In Louisville’s opening match, the Lions found themselves behind 37-18 before rallying behind Tucker Sjogren’s major decision and pins by Colby Smith and John Leversee. But the Lions failed to fill three weight divisions early in the match that came back to hurt at the end as LHS lost 40-34.

Both Platteview and Louisville failed to produce complete line-ups as the Trojans took advantage of three open classes and three pins to jump out to e 36-0 lead. But the Lions fought back, beginning with a Wade Knott pin of Andrew Henry midway through the final period. Scott Siebrass continued the Louisville comeback, pinning Wyatt Williams in 33 seconds and Colby Smith stck Mitch Penny in 5:09 to get back into contention.

But the Trojans got a 9-0 victory by Sheridan Mason over Steihl Reeves that locked up the decision. The Lions accepted two forfeits in the final matches of the night as Platteview escaped with a 46-36 team win.

Pat Cleary (195), John Leversee (182) and Colby Smith (160) went 2-0 against the Pioneers and Trojans with Smith pinning both of his opponents.

The Lions travel to the Ashland-Greenwood Invite on Friday. Action is set to begin at 3:30 p.m.
