Lions Beat Tigers, Lose to Panthers (10-25-11)

Louisville lost the final match of the Palmyra Triangular to the host Panthers 25-19, 21-25, 16-25 after defeating East Butler 25-20, 25-21 in the second match. East Butler lost in straight sets to the Panthers to open the evening’s activities.

Louisville now awaits the C1-2 Subdistrict pairing to be announced on Wednesday. The Lions are expected to be the number two seed, facing Boys Town in a 6:00 match on Tuesday, November 1 at Platteview High School. The subdistrict final is scheduled to be played later that evening at approximately 7:00.

Lions Drop Match to Panther, 2-1

Natalie Minchow registered five of her match high 13 kills in the first set as the Lions defeated Palmyra 25-19 in the opening game. Samantha Lane and Morgan Dittberner chipped in with four and three first game kills, respectively, as LHS displayed a balanced attack at the net. Louisville aggressive serve kept the Panther attack out of sync, accounting for 7 unforced Panther errors.

In game two, Louisville held the lead throughout most of the set until a Lion hitting error and a Shelby Bruss kill knotted the score at 19 all. The Panthers outscored LHS 6-2 the rest of the way, led by three kills by 5’ 9” senior hitter, Mackenzie Reynoldson, as Palmyra hung on to win game two, 25-21.

The Panthers led by as many as 12 points during game three, the last at 21-9 before the Lions mounted a mini-comeback when Minchow’s ace narrowed the gap at 23-16. But Palmyra scored the final two points, the last on a Holly Hanau kill, to win the game, 25-16. and the match at 2-1.

Lions Dispose of Tiger, 2-0
In a match not as close as the score might indicate, the Lions defeated East Butler, 25-20, 25-21 in match two of the Palmyra Triangular.

LHS led by six points throughout much of the opening game, extending the margin to as many as eight at 21-13 before the Tigers went on a 7-2 run, largely on Louisville errors, before kills by Morgan Dittberner and Natalie Minchow ended game one, 25-20.

In game two, neither team could open any more then a three point lead in the early going until Louisville broke a 13-13 tie by scoring four consecutive points beginning with a Dittberner kill, followed by two Maddie Shepard aces and a Tiger hitting error, giving the Lions a 17-13 lead. Dittberner then iced the game with three aces and a kill giving LHS a 22-14 lead, their largest of the game, as the Lions cruised to a 25-21 second game victory and a straight set match win..
