Ashland-Greenwood
Ends LHS Season
(11-1-11)
Louisville took a four-set match against the Boys Town Cowboys before
ending their season at the hands of Ashland-Greenwood 10-25, 16-25, 20-25
in sub-district action Tuesday evening at Platteview High School.
Bluejays Defeat Lions 3-0
Seventeen wins. Top-seated Ashland-Greenwood opened sub-district play
by coasting to their 17th win of the season in straight sets against the
Conestoga Cougars. Louisville opened play by earning their 17th win of
the season against the Boys Town Cowboys. 3-1.
Unfortunately, only one team would see their season continue and earn
that 18th victory. Ashland-Greenwood played near flawless volleyball and
rode the firepower of Morgan Riecken to snag the victory and extend their
season. Riecken finished the match with 13 kills, an ace and four solo
blocks to pace the Bluejays.
“We played hard but Ashland didn’t make many mistakes,”
Coach Davenport commented. “This is a great bunch of girls, we just
got outplayed tonight. We are going to miss the seniors and their leadership
next year. This is an emotional time for all of us.”
Senior captain, Natalie Minchow, led the Lion offense with seven kills
and a block. Morgan Dittberner contributed three kills and a block.
Ashland-Greenwood advances to play Auburn, 21-8, on Friday, November 4
for the C1-1 district title and a state tourney berth.
Louisville closes the seaons with a 17-13 record.
