LHS Places 6th at Malcolm (4-3-12)

Louisville’s boys and girls track and field teams each finished in sixth place at the Malcolm Invitational. The host Clippers easily won the girls portion of the meet while Milford edged Wilber-Clatonia for the boys title.

LHS long jumper Rachel Geurts, unbeaten in the first four meets of the spring, earned the only Louisville gold medal by sailing 16’ 10.5”. The jump established a new meet record, breaking the old mark of 16’ 8.75 set by Lauren Tonniges of Osceola in 2006.

Junior Madison Shepard had a good day in the field and on the track, placing second in the triple jump (31’ 65”) and third in both the 110 and 300 meter hurdles.

Jake Zyla led the Louisville boys squad with a second place finish in the 800 in a time of 2:09.6, then later teamed with Jack Winkler, TJ Zaracki and Jeff Bishop for a third place showing in the 4x800 relay. Winkler earned two other medals, placing third in the 1600 (5:12.1) and fourth in the 3200 (11:26.3).

Next action for the Lions will be Tuesday when LHS takes part in the Yutan Invitational beginning at 1:00 p.m.
