Hauschild No-Hits Falcons; Crush Lose to Patriots, 6-3 (9-8-11)
Cass
County Central’s Heather Hauschild threw a no-hitter and LeighAnn
Novotny stroked a third inning RBI single as the Crush defeated Douglas
County West/Concordia, 1-0, in the opener of a C4 double header. The loss
dropped the Falcons record to 7-4.
The Crush, which had just six hits in the game, bunched four of them during
the third inning when Carlee Derby, Haley Johnson and Addie Thomas loaded
the bases for Novotny’s line-drive, game winning single.
Hauschild dominated the Falcons, allowing just one Falcon runner to advance
as far as second base. Once Cass County Central gained the lead, the senior
right-hander set down the final 12 D.C. West batters, earning five of
her six game strikeouts during that stretch as the defense captured five
fly balls and two ground outs.
Cass County Crush lost the
nightcap to ECNC rival Yutan-Mead, 6-3. The Patriots upped their record
to 4-7 while C4 dropped to 5-4.
The Patriots took advantage of five Crush errors to take a 5-0 lead after
three innings before Cass County Central tallied two runs in the fourth
frame. Malanie Gist’s triple followed a Hauschild double and a Patriot
misplay of the relay throw allowed Gist to scoot home as the score tightened
to 5-2
But Yutan-Mead answered with another unearned run on two Crush errors
and a hit batsman in the top of fifth before Abbie Tlustos’ two
out, RBI single to right-center scored Hauschild with the final C4 run
in the sixth inning. But the Patriots’ Kelli Fisher allowed the
Crush no closer, earning two of her nine strikeouts in the final inning.
Next action for Cass County Central is at the Falls City Invite on Saturday
with action beginning at 9:00.
