Neumann’s Elizabeth Homes, a freshman right-hander, limited Cass County Central to three hits and the Cavaliers played errorless defense en route to a 3-0 victory in the consolation game of the Syracuse Invitational.

The Crush threatened just twice in the game, advancing runners to third in the sixth and seventh inning but couldn’t get the timely hit necessary to dent the scoring column.

Senior center fielder Cera Woita went 2-for-3 at the plate driving in two runs for the Cavaliers.

Crush ace, Heather Hauschild, suffered the loss, giving up just five hits, striking out seven while walking one Neumann batter.

Cass Country Central travels to Plattsmouth for a triangular with the Blue Devils and Bennington on Tuesday with action scheduled to begin at 4:30.

Syracuse 5, Cass County Central 4
Cass County Central suffered their first loss of the young season, falling to Syracuse, 5-4, in eight innings.

The first five innings of the game was a pitching duel between C4’s Heather Hauschild and Alyx Beckmann of Syracuse as neither team could mount a consistent offensive attack

The Rockets scored first, plating three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning on four hits and one Crush error. But Cass County Central answered with three runs of their own in the top of the seventh to knot the score at 3-3.

C4’s Haylie Johnson started things off by living on an error with Cody Meyer moving her to second base on a solid single through the shortstop/third baseman gap. Two outs later, after each had advanced on a Hauschild ground out, an RBI single by Malanie Gist, a Rocket error on Abby Tlustos’ grounder and a Lauren Stohlmann RBI double to right field tied the score at 3-3.

Syracuse was unable to score in the bottom of the seventh as the game went into tiebreaker mode with each team starting a runner at second base in their half of the frame.

Cass County Central scored in the top of the eighth by advancing Carlee Derby to third on a dropped third strike, then scoring on a passed ball. But Syracuse countered with two runs on a three-base error and a game winning RBI single by Sarah Griswell, her third hit of the game, to pull out a 5-4 victory..
