Raymond Central Claims 2-0 Win (9-28-11)

Raymond Central, held to just four hits by Cass County Central senior Heather Hauschild, made the most of their limited offense to score a 2-0 victory over the Crush.

In the bottom of the first inning, the Mustangs’ Shelby Heithoff hit a triple to the right-centerfield gap then scooted home on Shanna Blazek’s sacrifice fly, scoring what proved to be the winning run.

Cass County Central advanced runners to third base twice in the contest but couldn’t get the timely hit needed to win the game. In the fourth inning, Hauschild walked and advanced to third on Lauren Stohlmann’s two-out single, the first Crush hit of the night. Abbie Tlustos’ fly ball was captured to end the threat.

Raymond Central tacked on another score in the fifth frame when Erin Harris led off the inning with a single then advanced to second on Bryn Matulka’s sacrifice bunt. When Harris continued to third on the play, an errant attempt to record an out at third allowed Harris to score an unearned run and take a 2-0 lead.

In the sixth inning, Stohlmann hustled to first on a dropped third strike, eventually advancing to third before being thrown out at the plate in a controversial play on a Carlee Derby ground ball.

Hauschild struck out eight Mustangs while walking one. Ohnoutka struck out 10 batters, walking one Crush batter.

Cass County Central is idle until the beginning of district play when their opponent will be Freeman at Noon on Thursday, October 6 at Syracuse.
