Crush
Bests Pioneers; Win 3-2 Over Fort Calhoun
(9-6-11)
Heather Hauschild’s sacrifice fly drove in LeighAnn Novotny with
the game winning run as the Cass Country Central Crush defeated the Fort
Calhoun Pioneers, 3-2.
With the score tied 2-2, Novotny led off the fifth inning by lacing a
double to left field before advancing to third on a Pioneer passed ball.
Hauschild’s deep fly ball to left field easily scored Novotny with
what proved to be game winner.
The Crush started the game with a bang when singles by Hasuchild and Malanie
Gist set the stage for RBI singles by Lauren Stohlmann and Cody Meyer.
That 2-0 lead held up until the Pioneers tied the game in the bottom of
the fourth on two hits and a fielder’s choice.
But Cass County Central immediately answered in the top of the fifth with
the Novotny-Hauschild combination to claim the 3-2 win as Hauschild, who
was also the game-winning pitcher, allowed just a bunt single and the
Crush played errorless defense in the final three innings of play.
“We played good defense tonight,” said Crush co-head coach
Kim Hammer. “And Heather pitched a great game.” Hauschild
ended the night with seven strikeouts while walking one lone Pioneer.
The win breaks a three-game Crush skid while improving their season mark
to 4-3 while Fort Calhoun falls to 2-3.
Cass County Central will play a varsity double-header at Ash Grove Field
on Thursday beginning with a 4:30 contest against Yutan-Mead followed
by a match up with the D.C. West Falcons.
