County Central 4, Falls City 0
For six innings Cass County Central pitcher Heather Hauschild and Falls
City’s Claire Poppe battled, allowing one and two hits, respectively,
in a 0-0 tie.
But in the final inning, it was the Tigers who blinked first as the Cass
County Central rolled to a 4-0 win over Falls City at Dallas Jones Park.
With one out in the last inning, C4’s Carlee Derby started the rally
by launching a triple over the Tigers’ left-fielder then scored
on a Falls City error when Cody Meyer’s ground ball bunt was thrown
over the third baseman’s head, leaving Cass County Central with
a 1-0 lead and Meyer on third.
The Crush loaded the bases when Falls City, not wanting Meyer to score,
held onto bunt attempts by Jordyn GIles and Haley Johnson. LeighAnn Novotny
then went to the plate and blasted a two-run single to right-center scoring
Meyer and Giles with Johnson scoring the final C4 run on a Hauschild sacrifice
fly.
Pitching with a 4-0 lead, Hauschild, Cass County Central’s ace,
set down the Tigers in order in the bottom of the seventh on two ground
outs and her tenth strikeout of the game for her second complete game
shut-out of the season.
“This was a good one to win,” said Crush co-head coach, Lindsay
Brinkman. “We fought hard for this one.”
With the victory, C4 improves to 11-8 on the year while Falls City’s
record drops to 13-9. Cass County Central’s next action will be
at the ECNC Tournament this Saturday when the Crush face Johnson County
Central in opening round action at 10:00.
