Jays End Crush Season in District Finals (10-7-11)

Ashland-Greenwood 10
, Cass County Central 0
Ashland-Greenwood defeated Cass County Central 10-0 in the finals of the C-1 District Tournament, earning a repeat trip to the Nebraska State Softball Tournament in Hastings.

The Bluejays scored early and often, mounting a 6-0 lead in the fourth inning before Amanda Washburn ended the game with an exclamation point, stroking a line-drive to deep left-field that bounced and rolled for a grand slam home-run and a 10-0 Bluejay victory.

The Crush had their best opportunity to score in the first inning, loading the bases with two outs on a base-on-balls to Malanie Gist followed by singles by Lauren Stohlmann and Abbie Tlustos. But Ashland-Greenwood ace Kirsten Goff recorded her third strikeout of the inning to end the threat.

The Bluejays will take a 15-14 into the state tourney while the Cass County Central Crush end the 2011 campaign with a 15-13 mark.

Cass County Central 4, Syracuse 3
Cass County Central defeated Syracuse, 4-3, for the right to play Ashland-Greenwood in the District C-1 finals.

The Crush scored three unearned runs in the second inning on three Syracuse errors and a Carlee Derby single to take a commanding lead early in the game.

Syracuse threatened in the top of the third frame, leaving two runners in scoring position, but didn’t have a base runner the next two innings as Crush hurler Heather Hauschild set the Rockets down in order.

Syracuse, who had not scored a run against the Crush in over 12 innings of district competition, ended the drought in the sixth inning on Cassi Rippe’s two-out single, scoring Alyx Beckmann from third base.

Cass County Central answered in the bottom half of the sixth with a run of their own, scoring what proved to be the winning run on Cody Meyer’s double, plating Lauren Stohlmann, who had led off the inning with a single.

Behind 4-1 in the seventh, Syracuse scored twice on three singles and a Crush miscue to tighten the score at 4-3 but, with the bases loaded and two outs, C4 third baseman Addie Thomas cradled Rippe's grounder, then raced to third base, beating the Rocket runner to the base for the force out and a Crush victory.

Hauschild allowed seven hits while striking out eight Rockets to earn the victory.
