Powerful Knights Stay Unbeaten (9-30-11)

Oakland-Craig scored on each of their seven first half possessions, taking a 50-0 lead into half-time en route to a 50-8 win over Louisville in a District C2-3 contest. The Knights, ranked seventh by the Omaha World-Herald, remain undefeated at 5-0 while the Lions fall to 2-3.

Michael Enstrom, a 185 pound senior running back, was the main beneficiary of strong offensive line play by the Knights, scoring three touchdowns while accumulating 97 first half yards on just nine carries.

The Oakland-Craig defense was just a formidable holding the LHS offense without a first and ten until midway through the second period.

The Lions got on the board in the fourth quarter, scoring on an eight play, 57 yard drive ending with a Skyler Deloske touchdown scamper through the right side of the Knight reserve defensive unit from 31 yards out. Freshman running back Wade Knott scored the double-extra points.

Jake Snodgrass led the Lions defense with 2 solo tackles and 7 assists with Steihl Reeves adding 7 assists and 1 tackle for loss. Chipping in with support were Andrew DeBrie (4 solos, 1 assist, 2 TFL), Wade Knott (3 solos, 4 assists) and Gavin Siebrass (6 assists).

"You can't be too disappointed about losing to a team as good as Oakland-Craig," said Louisville coach Nick Bausch. "However, we did not play our brand of football for large parts of the first half and that is disheartening. We pride ourselves on playing aggressive and flying to the football. There were glimpses of that as we put O-C into several 3rd and longs and then let them convert. I believe that we allowed ourselves to be intimidated by them. Physically we may have been outmatched but that is no excuse for the way we played. We made some mistakes near the end of the second quarter that allowed them to have a short field a couple times and convert that into quick touchdowns. We regrouped at half time and came out and did some things in the second half that we can build on as we prepare for the final three games of the regular season."

Louisville travels to Elmwood-Murdock to face their ECNC rival for a 7:00 p.m. contact next Friday.
