Streak Broken, LHS Shuts Out T-Birds, 22-0 (9-3-11)

The Louisville Lions opened the 2011 campaign with a 22-0 victory of Johnson County Central in a home contest played at Ralston due to construction at the Louisville field.

Sophomore running back Skyler Deloske tallied three touchdowns in the contest that was delayed after the third quarter on Friday night due to lightning, then completed Saturday morning.

After threatening to score midway through the first period, the Lions entered the scoring column when Deloske used strong blocking by the left side of LHS offensive line for a 22 yard touchdown at the 9:46 mark of the second quarter.

The offensive line of Sam Glasshoff, Steihl Reeves, Pat Cleary, Clayton Snodgrass, John Leversee and Jake Snodgrass continued their strong play in the second half, leading the way for Deloske's second score of the game, a 17 yard jaunt that made the score 14-0 with 4:08 left in the third quarter

The score remained 14-0 going into the final period when officials suspended the game due to lightning in the area. After over two hours and constant attention to radar by officials from both schools, it was decided the game should be resumed the following morning at 10:00.

Saturday was much like the previous evening, as Louisville came out with dominant line play on both sides of the ball while tacking on another TD as Deloske closed out scoring with an 11 yard burst with 1:40 remaining in the game to seal the win. The sophomore running back accumulated 168 yards on 23 carries.

The Lion defense was led by freshman linebacker Devin Norris with two solo tackles and 12 assists, senior Jake Snodgrass with one tackle and 12 assists and Colby Smith with 8 assisted tackles.

The victory broke a 26 game losing streak by the Lions whose previous win was a 24-13 conquest of Malcolm on October 12, 2007. Louisville’s last defensive shut out was a 42-0 rout of JCC, also in 2007.

“I’m unbelievably proud of this team,” said Louisville head coach Nick Bausch. “These guys believe in themselves, their attitude has been tremendous.”

“We work as a team,” said Reeves, a senior guard. “We work for the guy next to us and we trust each other...our team has a lot of heart.”

The Lions travel to Conestoga (1-0) next Friday for a 7:00 p.m. battle against the Cougars, who defeated Brownell-Talbot, 45-7, Friday evening.
