Dreary Night, Dreary Results; Titans Beat Louisville (9-17-11)

Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer scored on their first two possessions of the game, then finished off the Lions by scoring three times in the final quarter, as the Titans shut out Louisville, 47-0, under cool, wet conditions at Abel Stadium on the Nebraska Wesleyan University campus.

Seniors Tate Hanzlicek and Jake Clancy scored three touchdowns apiece for H-TR-S, as the Titans scored their first win of the season against two losses. The Lions fall to 1-2 on the year.

H-TR-S ran their version of the single-wing offense to near perfection, accumulating, unofficially, 411 of total offense, all on ground. Hanzlicek, the fullback in the Titan offensive set, ran for 196 on just 13 carries while Clancy, a 195 pound tailback, toted the ball 18 times for 117 yards.

Louisville’s offense drove to the 34 yard line before stalling on their first possession of the game and advanced as deep as the H-TR-S 25 yard line late in the second period. But in the second half of play, the talented Titan defense never allowed the Lions past the mid-field stripe.

"I thought we would come out the second half and really make it a close game," said Louisville head coach Nick Bausch. "The second half didn't turn out the way we had hoped. We allowed a couple big plays and then just didn't respond well to adversity and we let things snowball on us a bit, which we cannot allow in the future."

The Lions were unofficially held to 77 yards of total offense. Quarterback Mitch Petersen completed three passes for 44 yards while sophomore quarterback Sterling Reeves entered late in the game to top all Louisville rushers with 31 yards on two carries.

"To the credit of the young men on our team they played hard throughout the game," said Bausch. "I don't believe that the final score is representative of this game, but more importantly I think we learned some valuable lessons that will make us a better football team as we continue on with our season."

The Lions travel to Omaha to begin the district portion of their season, taking on the Brownell-Talbot Raiders (0-3) Friday afternoon in a 4:00 match-up.
