Shuts Out Lions (10-7-11)
Elmwood-Murdock,
ranked fifth in Class C-2 by the Omaha World-Herald, defeated the Louisville
Lions, 55-0, in District C2-3 action.The shut-out was the third for the
Knights in a 6-0 season.
The Knights scored three times in the opening quarter, then effectively
sealed the victory with another two scores in the second period, taking
a 35-0 lead into the half-time intermission.
The Knights accumulated 506 total yards, 376 of that on the ground, while
holding Louisville to 36 yards of total offense.
“The game was a big disappointment for us as a team,” said
Louisville head coach, Nick Bausch. “We had high expectations for
this game. We believed, and still believe, that we have a good football
team and that we could compete with a good E-M team.”
“However, our players still lack the confidence in themselves to
compete on that level,” continued Bausch. “We made a
few mistakes early and E-M made us pay for them and after that we never
really played with the confidence necessary to compete. I thought
our kids played hard but not consistent enough. We couldn't get
into a rhythm in order to put together a sustained drive and made too
many mental mistakes on both sides of the ball. Elmwood Murdock
is a good team and they made us pay for our mistakes and our lack of offensive
ball control. We need to find a way to become consistent enough
to move the ball effectively and do a better job of playing assignment
football. When we do that, and believe that we can do it every play
good things will happen for this team.”
The Lions travel to Yutan next Friday to take on the Chieftains (0-6)
while E-M hosts Oakland-Craig, also undefeated and ranked just a notch
below the Knights, in a contest to determine the district champion.
