Lemmers Named Runza Student-Athlete of the Week
(10-16-07)

Senior Nico Lemmers will be named Runza’s Student-Athlete of the Week during the 9:00 broadcast of the KPTM Fox 42 News on Wednesday, October 17.

J. J. Davis, KPTM Sports Director, was at Louisville High School to interview Lemmers and to film segments for the broadcast. Football coach Wally Johnson was interviewed as well as Rob Geise, Nico’s physiology teacher.

“We have around 50 applicants per week,” said Davis. “Nico’s grade-point average stood out plus his athletic achievements."

Academically, Lemmers ranks third in his class and is also President of the Senior Class. Nico is currently averaging 5.7 yards per carry as a Louisville running back, earned a third-place medal at last winter’s state wrestling tournament in the 152 weight class and was the district champion in the 400 this past spring.

“The number one criteria is academics,” emphasized Lori Polaczek, Runza representative who was on site to present Nico with a plaque and a $500 scholarship to any school of his choice. “Next we look at activities to see leadership qualities, then we weigh the athletic accomplishments.”

The Runza Student-Athlete program is in it’s fifth year. Lemmers is the fifth of 33 local students who will receive the award during the 2007-2008 school year with a Runza Student-Athlete of the Year to be selected from the weekly award winners next spring.

Expect the Nielsen Ratings for Wednesday’s KPTM Fox 42 News broadcast to peek, thanks to increased viewership from the Louisville area.
