Stander, Bishop Lead Lions at Malcolm Invite (9-20-11)

Louisville’s Sydney Stander was the top finisher for the Lions, placing 17th at the Malcolm Invitational held at Branched Oak Lake. ECNC rival East Butler won the girls portion of the meet while the boys event saw Milford, ranked fourth in Class C by the Omaha World-Herald, finishing on top. Each team had three participants place in the top 15.

Once again, Jeff Bishop led the Louisville High School boys team, placing 31st in the talented field in a time of 20:24.75. Chris Van Horn ran the course in 22:08.99 to finish in 57th place, bettering his career Branched Oak Lake time by almost 50 seconds

Other runners for LHS, with times and placings included Dani Gennaro (19:44.1, 25), Lane Sladky (22:19.35, 58) and Andrew Sjogren (22:33.57, 60).

"There were a lot of very good teams at the Malcolm Invite which had 55 girls and 85 boys compete in the varsity race." said Louisville coach Matt Hammer. "The times that the kids ran were right about where they usually are but with the large field and tough competition they didn't place as high as they would have liked. It doesn't matter what teams show up or what the weather is like; the kids always give their best effort."

Louisville continues their hectic schedule on Thursday, traveling north to the Fort Calhoun Invitational held at Ft. Atkinson State Park. Start time is set for 4:30.
