Gennaro, Bishop Lead Lions at JCC Invite (9-2-11)

Louisville’s Dani Gennaro and Jeff Bishop led the Louisville High School cross country teams as the Lions began the 2011 season at the Johnson County Central Invitational.

Bishop led the Lions to an eighth place showing in the team standings, touring the Tecumseh Country Club course in 20:30.6, good for 30th place with Vincent Smejkal (21:28.6, 37th) following close behind.

Other Louisville varsity boys runners with times and places were Lane Sladky (22:05.9, 39th), Chris Van Horn (23:21.8, 46th) and Andrew Sjogren (23:33.7, 48th).

Gennaro, a senior veteran, finished the 4,000 meters in a time of 20:17 to place 19th in the field while teammate Sydney Stander placed 23rd (20:30.5). LHS, with just two girls running, did not qualify for the team standings.

“It was a rough start to the season,” said Louisville coach, Matt Hammer. “There are a lot of new faces on the team and now they have that first meet under their belt which is good. However, we have a lot of work to do over the next couple of weeks to get back on track so that we can really begin to run some good times. Keeping kids healthy will be key over the next few weeks.”

Next up for the Lions is next Thursday, September 8 at the Fremont Bergan Invite held at Camp Calvin Crest. Action begins at 4:30 p.m.
