LHS Girls Return With Medals (9-15-11)

Seniors Sydney Stander and Dani Gennaro recorded season-best times while earning medals at the Bennington Invitational held at the Lake Side Course.

With cool temperatures in the 60s and a slight breeze, Stander placed fifth in a time of 18:07 while Gennaro clocked in with a time of 19:11, good for 15th place.

“The girls however had a great day!” said Louisville coach Matt Hammer. “Both Sydney and Dani earned medals and dropped lots of time off of their bests from this season.” Stander knocked almost 2 1/2 minutes off her best time of the year with Gennaro bettering her year-long mark by over a minute.

Louisville’s boys team ran well at Bennington, as two of the three Lion runners set season bests.

Jefff Bishop ran the 5000 meters in 19:12, lowering his mark by 1:13 and Chris Van Horn placed 46th in a time of 21:28 over 1 1/2 minutes better then his previous best at the Yutan Invite. Lane Sladky placed 48th in a time of 22:06, just a second off his best.

“The boys fought hard today and all of them improved their times from this season,” said Hammer. “Unfortunately, it was a tough field and there were no medals earned on the boys side.”

Louisville travels to Branched Oak Lake for the Malcolm Invitational next Tuesday. The girls varsity is scheduled to begin at 5:00.
