Chieftains End LHS Streak, Beat the Lions 76-66 (1-19-12)

Yutan ended the Louisville Lions’ four game winning streak, earning a 76-66 victory on the Chieftains home court. The loss dropped the LHS record to 7-8 while Yutan improved to 7-6.

After falling behind in the first quarter by as many as 10 points, the Lions rallied, eventually taking their only lead of the game at 22-21 when senior Sam Long scored a power lay-up with an assist from sophomore guard, Zach Lutz.

But the Chieftains scored the next 10 points, eight of those coming from Gage Layman, the only senior on the Yutan roster, giving the home team a 31-22 lead. The ECNC rivals traded scores the rest of the half, as the Chieftains led 35-26 at the halftime break.

Yutan extended their lead to as many as 18 points in the third quarter but the Lions never quit, lowering the deficit to six at 61-55 on a Jake Snodgrass short-range field goal at the 5:25 mark in the fourth quarter.

But the Chieftains, behind the efforts of Jacob Peitzmeier who scored five of his game high 24 points in the final four minutes, kept the Lions at bay to register the ECNC victory.

Tucker Anderson led Louisville scorers with 20 points, followed by Skyler Delsoke’s 18 points, a career high accomplished on just seven shots from the field. Snodgrass was the third Lion in double figure scoring with 14 points.

After seven games in 14 days, the Lions have eight days to prepare for a home contest with Mead on Friday, January 27, scheduled to begin at 7:30.

Strong Second Half Nets Yutan Win (1-19-12)
Yutan 70, Louisville girls 57

Trailing by a score of 31-28 at the half-time break, Yutan outscored Louisville, 42-26, in the second half of play to claim a 70-57 ECNC victory. The Lions saw their season mark fall to 11-5 while the Chieftains, who lost their first four games of the season, improved to 8-7.

Yutan’s Morgan Davis scored 16 of her team-high 21 points in the last half of play to lead the surge with Morgan O’Malley adding 14 of her 16 game points during the same time period.

Morgan Dittberner led the Louisville offense with 21 points followed by Sydney Stander’s 11 points and Natalie Minchow’s 10 tallies.

The Lions are now idle until Friday, January 27 when the Mead Raiders visit for a 6:00 contest.
