LHS Improves to 4-1 with Win Over JCC (12-16-11)

Senior forward Natalie Minchow scored a career high 19 points in leading the Louisville Lions to a 56-43 victory over the visiting Johnson County Central Thunderbirds.

Minchow poured in 13 of her points in the second half of play, including 7 in the third quarter when LHS extended a six point half-time lead into a 14 point advantage going into the final period.

The T-Birds were led in scoring by sophomores Courtney Eltiste and Hanna Borenpohl, each registering 8 points.

"We started the game struggling from the floor shooting the ball, but our defense was solid," said LHS head coach Wally Johnson, "The girls played one of their best defensive games of the year, but it was not without faults."

"I was really proud of the girls in their response to the adjustments we made," continued Johnson. "Both offensively and defensively they are getting better at making changes throughout the game on the run."

The Lion victory improves Louisville’s record to 4-1 while JCC drops to 2-2. LHS will travel to Platteview to take on the Trojans (5-3) next Thursday with tip-off scheduled for 5:45.

Johnson County Central 84, Louisville boys 57

Johnson Country Central connected on 15 of 28 shots from beyond the arc while defeating Louisville, 84-57, in the Lions’ gym.

Cole Hamilton, a senior shooting guard for the T-Birds, was just one of a quartet of T-Birds who scored in double-figures, pouring in a game-high 25 points for the 4-0 JCC team ranked sixth in the pre-season poll by the Omaha World-Herald. Hamilton was successful on 7 of 10 shots from long range.

Johnson County Central, with a line-up that featured 6’ 9” and 6’ 7” starters, dominated the boards, allowing Louisville just 6 offensive rebounds in the game.

The Lions were led on offense by Tucker Anderson’s 16 points with Josh Bouvier assisting with 11 tallies, a career high for the senior guard.

The Lions (2-3) travel to Platteview (2-5) for a 7:30 game against the Trojans next Thursday.
