Lions Even Record, Beat Falcons 58-51 (1-17-12)
Louisville boys 58, D.C. West 51

Louisville had the final run of the game, claiming a 58-51 win over the visiting D. C. West Falcons. The LHS victory, their fifth in the last six games, evens the Lions’ record at 7-7 while the Falcons, losers of four straight, fall to 5-9.

The Lions, who never trailed the entire second half, led 50-42 after senior center Sam Long converted the first of two free throws with 5:12 remaining.

That’s when D.C. West went on an 8-1 run over the next two minutes, tightening the score at 51-50. But the Lions answered by ending the game on a 7-1 run of their own, using steady free throw shooting by Josh Bouvier, 3-for-4, and Jake Snodgrass, 2-for-2, before Long’s lay-up at the end of the game capped off the big win for Louisville.

“It’s a process,” said Louisville head coach Colin Lansman, “We want to be playing our best at tournament time. We still have some tough games coming up, but I like where we’re at.”

Snodgrass’s 23 points, a career best for the 6’ 0” senior, paced the Louisville offense while classmate Tucker Anderson was the other Lion in double figures with 10 points.

“I was very proud of our guys tonight,” continued Lansman. “It took a great defensive effort to make up for almost 30 turnovers. We did not handle the ball well and played too tentative when the game got close. Ultimately, we overcame a lot of adversity and did what we had to do down the stretch. Some guys stepped up and played some solid minutes late in the game after having not played a lot early.  We've got ourselves on a roll right now and it feels good to be playing well. We've got another challenge ahead in conference opponent Yutan. It will be a great challenge for our defense.”

Yutan (6-6, 3-2 in conference) hosts the Lions, 3-2 in ECNC action, on Thursday with the winner claiming fourth place in the ECNC standings. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:30.

Lions Pull Away in Third Period For Easy Win (1-17-12)
Louisville girls 62, D.C. West 42

Leading by just nine points at the half, the Louisville LIons outscored D.C. West 15-6 in the first five minutes of the third quarter, doubling their lead en route to a convincing 62-42 victory over the Falcons.

Morgan Dittberner nailed two treys, Natalie Minchow hit a jumper and converted a conventional three-point play while Sydney Stander and Taylor Zaracki chipped in with field goals during the rally, allowing the Lions to take a commanding 39-21.

Louisville’s lead grew to as many as 25 points after a Minchow 3 from the top of the key made the score 53-28 with 6:20 left in the game. Led by Katie Brichacek nine points, the Falcons outscored LHS 14-9 the rest of the contest but it was too-little, too-late for the visitors as the Lions notched the latest win in an 11-4 season.

Minchow led Louisville scorers with 16 points while Dittberner tossed in five 3s for 15 points. Two Falcons, Brichacek and Mary Kaven, tied for game scoring honors with 17 apiece.

“We didn’t execute well defensively in the first half,” said Louisville head coach Wally Johnson, “so we played the older girls more then we really wanted to. We wanted to save the girls’ legs since we have some tough games coming up.”

That journey begins Thursday when Louisville visits Yutan for a key ECNC match which begins at 6:00 p.m.
