Final Quarter Earns Cougar Win (2-20-12)
Conestoga 57, Louisville boys 43

Conestoga defeated Louisville, 57-43, ending the LIons’ season in the first round of the C1-3 Sub-District Tournament at Waverly. LHS ends their season with an 9-14 mark, while the Cougars, 8-13, move on in tourney play, facing top-seeded Wahoo at 6:00 Tuesday evening.

Outside of brief Louisville leads in the first nine minutes of play, Conestoga led throughout the first two quarters of the game, posting a 29-23 lead at the half behind the play of seniors Cal Thompson and Logan Wilsey, who pumped in 12 and 11 first half points, respectively.

The Cougars increased their lead to as many as 10 points at 33-23 when Stephen Flowers scored from close range with 6:15 left in the third period. But the Lions mustered up a 13-2 run over the next 7 1/2 minutes, taking a 36-35 lead when Colt Johannsen, Louisville’s 6’ sophomore forward, made the second of two free throws with 6:53 remaining in the game.

But Conestoga answered by outscoring LHS 22-7 the rest of the contest to earn the victory. Flowers, a 5’ 10” senior guard, was the chief nemesis of the Lions, scoring 12 of his game-high 22 points during the spree.

Louisville’s top scorer was senior guard Tucker Anderson, who tallied 15 points while gathering seven rebounds while Petersen chipped in with 12 points.
