The
Louisville girls basketball team saw their season end with a 51-42
overtime loss to Malcolm in the first round of the C2-3 Subdistrict
Tournament.
With the score knotted at 42-42, the Clippers outscored the Lions,
9-0, during the four minute overtime period. After missing their first
shot in OT, Malcolm connected on their next three possessions to take
a commanding 48-42 lead with just 1:18 remaining. The Clippers then
went 3-for-4 from the line to ice the win.
But for the first three quarters of the game, it was all Louisville.
The Lions connected on 13 of 33 shots from the floor, including five
three-pointers, in the first 24 minutes as LHS never trailed in the
contest while taking a 37-36 lead into the final period of play. However,
Louisville didn’t score a field goal on 13 possessions in the
final frame. Louisville went 5-for-9 from the free throw line and
0-4 from the field with four turnovers in the critical quarter.
The LHS cold snap allowed the Clippers to take their first lead of
the game with just 1:50 left in regulation when Rachel Vanderkolk
hit two free throws to give Malcolm a 40-39 lead. Tabby Gennaro dropped
in three of four free throws and Emily Lostroh hit a field goal from
short range as the score remained tied at end of regulation. The Clippers
then won the game with their 9-0 run in OT.
“The girls gave 110%,” said Louisville head coach Wally
Johnson. “We couldn’t ask for anything more. In the fourth
quarter, we didn’t look to shoot the ball enough and we ran
out of juice in overtime.”
“I feel bad for Tabby,” continued Johnson. “She
absolutely played her tail off for the team and the program.”
Gennaro, the only senior on the squad, scored a team-high 14 points
while playing her final game for Louisville. The Lions end the campaign
with a 9-12 record while Malcolm (11-10) survives to face Elmwood-Murdock
on Tuesday at 6:00.
